Introduction
Over the recent years, social media use has sky rocketed. 77% of U.S. Americans have a social media profile. With social media networks gaining so much popularity, companies have been switching gears from traditional advertising to social media advertising. Advertising on social media networks, where millions of people are active each day, has become the new big thing in the marketing industry. Advertising is how companies promote their products or services, and therefore it is very important that they find effective ways to do so, so that their products or services can be successful.
Previous research that has been done shows that advertising via social media can be successful for many companies. It was found that consumers’ engagement with social media, viral marketing, providing information, and feedback are all elements that contribute to the growth of companies. Consumers’ engagement with social networking sites is one major thing that leads to successful advertising via social media. Agam shares that that online networking sites are growing rapidly and are continuously adding more than 100,000 users a day. Some examples of these networks may be Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn (2017). Along with engagement, viral marketing also contributes to the success in advertising online. Bampo, Ewing, Mather, Stewart, and Wallace share that the social structure of these social media networks play a critical role in the spreading of a message, that can cause it to go viral. (2008). The spreading of information about new products is also a huge factor. Roberts, Candi, and Hughes share that the ability to promote and launch new products via social media presents an important opportunity (2017). Lastly, researchers also found that the feedback companies receive because of online advertisements is very helpful for company growth. Odhiambo (2012) agrees that social networks can help businesses make improvements: “Social networks and the web offer small and large companies new and unique opportunities to engage with their customer and learn about customers' needs in real time like never before” (p.1).
Even after all this research, I still found there to be missing information when it came to how effective advertising via social media is compared to traditional methods of advertising. I have conducted a survey with questions regarding this topic that will help to fill this gap in research.
1. Does it clearly justify why the topic is important? Or, is the need/exigency clear?
ReplyDeleteIt is clear why the topic is important to companies, not necessarily how it is or would be important to me
a. Does it require more concrete information on the topic?
There is sufficient information about the topic
b. Does the writer use sources to provide information? (citations?)
Yes four paraphrases and a quote
2. Does it discuss related research and identify gap?
Yes there is a paragraph on all the research that has been done and then clearly states the gap in the research and how that this review will focus on the gap
a. Does the review provide sufficient information about various perspectives/aspects of the topic?
Yes there is a lot of information about the topic the many ways there has been research
b. Does it synthesize sources well?
Yes they all run together and are used appropriately
c. Is the review concisely presented?
I think so. A few sentences are a little long, but can be easily fixed
d. Is the gap clear? Is it directly related to the review?
Yes the gap is extremely clear and related to the review
3. Does it state research questions/hypotheses?
Not a direct question stated, but very strongly implied when you read the introduction.
4. Is the language clear and concise and tone formal and scholarly?
Yes only a few sentences with minor errors, but other than that a very clear, concise introduction
Your paper is well constructed! It's easy to tell that you're very knowledgeable about the topic you chose to write about. My three suggestions that I feel that could help your paper are clarification, the use of sources, and the gap.
ReplyDeleteClarification was a minor issue that I only came across once or twice. For example, "With social media networks gaining so much popularity, companies have been switching gears from traditional advertising to social media advertising." I would explain to the reader what traditional advertising is so that the reader can understand the difference between traditional advertising and social media advertising.
Secondly, I would simply just tie together your sources. I would find connections or similar ideas in the research of the authors, so you can use the information in the paper. I found that sometimes only one source was used for main ideas, so I would try to find multiple sources for each concept.
Lastly, I would state what the gap is. The last paragraph states that there is missing information in the research, but it doesn't state what the missing information is. By stating the gap, your introduction will smoothly transition into the rest of your paper.
