Interview summary

Madi Gutknecht

For my interview I interviewed my mother, Leah Gutknecht, who has been in the field of business for about 18 years and currently works at a University.

From my interview I have learned that she spends about 50% of her time writing in some way, writing mostly to other professionals. She said that the most common type of writing she uses daily is email to communicate with other people such as students, parents, the president of the university, and outside parties. She also said that the writing she learned in school definitely helped prepare her for the writing demands of her job. The writing she does everyday can involve things such as investigative reports, statistical reports, strategic plans, training curriculum, presentations, policies, agendas, meeting notes, memos, letters, and emails. Her writing now involves more reporting actual incidents while in college her writing was more research based. The writing she does is much more information based than persuasive and is used mostly to communicate facts and findings. One thing she avoids most in her writing is emotion.
